“It’s going to take a lot of work to fix this country. But that’s okay, hard work is what Alaskans are all about.”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – January 21, 2026
Today, lifelong commercial fisherman and longtime educator Bill Hill launched his campaign for Alaska’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Bill, a Dena’ina Athabascan and Independent from Bristol Bay, is running to lower costs for working families, make billionaires and mega corporations pay their share, invest in Alaskan jobs and schools, and stop government overreach into Alaska’s way of life.
Bill has worked as a fisherman, a construction worker, a small business owner, and was an educator for 25 years. He was named 2023 Alaska Superintendent of the Year. Bill grew up in Bush Alaska, fishing, hunting, and helping his family raise sled dog teams.
Watch Bill’s launch video:
“I’m getting in this race because Alaskans deserve someone in Congress who gets it: We don’t want handouts. We want to be able to work hard, take care of our families, and live the Alaska way,” said Bill. “And we don’t think billionaires, corporations, and politicians should get to rig the system to profit off our hard work.”
Bill is running to:
- Lower costs for working Alaskans: Stop short-sighted tariffs, keep healthcare costs under control, and go to bat for housing and energy projects that bring down the cost of housing and heating bills.
- Fight corruption in DC: End tax handouts to billionaires and big corporations, ban stock trading by sitting members of Congress, and end price gouging to consumers.
- Protect Alaska’s way of life: Stop government overreach and protect Alaska’s way of life, including our subsistence rights, gun rights, and the right to make our own healthcare decisions.
Bill grew up in the small village of Kokhanok before his family moved to Naknek in Bristol Bay. He’s also lived in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. He’s a proud dad and grandpa, and is now back in Naknek with his wife Diane.
Bill is an Independent running to work hard on behalf of all Alaskans.
